In life, there are countless choices that I have made. Most have been simple, from choosing which class to take to happily choosing what to drink at Colectivo. Lately the choices have been more complicated. Looking at this transplant center versus a different one. Taking this medication with these side effects versus another with a different set of side effects. More recently, it has been will this surgery help regain more stability versus this one. Would this brand of IVIg continue helping my body fight versus this one.
Today, I am given a choice that I thought would be years down the road. A mere days before the deadline, I applied to both Edgewood College and University of Wisconsin-Madison for admission in the fall. Two schools that have life changing opportunities, brilliant courses, and are incredible institutions I would be honored to be accepted into.
I admit that the days and weeks leading up to admission decisions were stressful. I worried about not having a typical high school transcript or clubs to list in my applications. I knew I had my own story to share, with my own unique accomplishments, but I was unsure how that would be interpreted from an academic perspective.
Today I am so grateful, and honored, to say that I was accepted into both University of Wisconsin-Madison and Edgewood College. I am so honored that I have such a decision to make… a decision that is full of beautiful outcomes.
One year ago, I did not even think that something like this would be possible. Countless times on this journey I was worried I would not make it far enough to experience college. My future was constantly changing with the constant concerns regarding my health. I had to watch my beloved class graduate high school as they moved on to new adventures with their vibrant hearts shining for all to see.
Yet today, I am able to be making decisions any young adult should make. I am able to think about college. I am able to envision things I have always dreamed of, and know they are close.
For that, my gratitude is ever overflowing. I think of every person who has helped me through the battles and struggles, and celebrated the victories with me. Here is to living out a dream, a dream that will now be reality. On Wisconsin! Edgewood Eagles! College, here I come!
With smiles,
Isabelle
Congratulations Isabelle!
